 This is a great book, and as I move through my course at TAFE, this book explains so much. Thankfully, language is no barrier because the better I know my subjects the more interesting the illustrations become.

I was suffering from "Too tired & can't be bothered syndrome" this morning, 

but went to TAFE anyway. 

There's nothing like a new pair of shoes & a new lunchbox to motivate the school kid inside me to get me going. 

The blessing is getting to see  my friends while I'm there.

I have finished the adaptation of my dressmaker's mannequin, affectionately known as "Charlotte Button". It looks enormous to me, and is a tad too "fat" compared to my body, but flat pattern making isn't an exact science when you are NOT a stick thin super model. My clothes are a bit more "snug" on the model than they are on me, but it's adequate for draping and general fitting for an assignment due at the end of term. I can't wait until there's technology that scans the body and spits out a perfect body double mannequin at the other end.C urtain Uni is working on the scanning part, atm.

Btw, my duct tape model was a flop. It shrivelled to a meagre size 8, so totally useless.

Paul & I have been making a personalised dress form. I can't say it's pretty, but once it's padded in the right places, I have made a cover and then taped it, “Charlotte Button” (my will be very useful for doing some personal fitting and/or draping.

We’ve added this ribbon to represent where to measure and to then transfer onto a croquis with the same line for accurate tech drawing.

I learnt how to use a sewing machine when I was 9 years old and I've used the same home machine for nearly 36 years. I haven't really practised machine "skills'. I have just used my machine to sew. 

However, now that I'm at TAFE, I'm using industrial machines and am learning again from scratch. I am transferring those learning techniques to my home machines (I have a new sewing machine at home, too, though I'll never get rid of my trusty Elna Lotus). I need this practice because I have discovered that I cannot sew LONG straight lines to save my life!!! 😝😝😝
